The stay-down strike by 187 coalminers at the 44 John Darling” pit, Belmont, collapsed abruptly last night. All the men left the mine after an announcement by the Broken HiJl Company’s manager that his company was not prepared to submit to further “ humbugging," and intended to close its mines at 44 John Darling,” Burwood and Lambton indefinitely unless it received assurances of continuity of work.
