MORRINSVILLE 23, MATAMATA 6. (Special io Times.) MORRINSVILLE. Monday. Morrinsvllle senior representatives had a convincing win over Matamata by 23—0 on Saturday in the first match of the season ror the Finlay Cup. which Morrinsvtlle has held Tor the pnst three seasons. Morrinsvllle were without the services of I l. Russell, who has not yet recovered from the Injury which kept him out of the match against the Springboks last i week However. T. Leeson, who is very lit after his training for the match against the Springboks, led the Morlnsville pack in relentless 1 rushes, which had Matamata In difficulties i time after time. J. Leeson, T. Clarkln, G. Muir, M. Lewer, E. Leeson, Wilton, Faulkner, Holes. Both teams suffered from casualties. In the first half YV.' Carroll was replaced by A. Lowry In the Matamata backs, and Solley, the Morrinsvllle Tull-back, lert the field and D. Morris went on. At half-time the score was 3-all. YV. Cameron kicked a penalty goal for Morrinsvllle, and P. Hawke goaled for Matamata. In the second half the Morrtnsville forwards took charge, and the Morrinsvllle backs who had sun and wind behind them were constantly on attack. Mellow cut through the Matamata defence to give Cam.eron a try, which Cameron converted. Cameron kicked another penalty goal and potted a goal from well out when .the ball came back to him from a llne-out. Hermann, the rast Matamata winger, “broke away from half-way to score In the corner. In the concluding stages T. Clarkln and Faulkner scored for Morrinsvllle as the result of good following up, Aitken converting the last try. The referee xvas Mr Watkins (HamilPutaruru and Tauplrl also have challenges in for the Finlay Cup, but dates have not yet been allotted. Junior Representatives. Morrinsvllle and Matamata junior representatives had an exciting game in the curtain-raiser, Avhlcli was a match or the YY’atkato Union's Clnrke Cup competition. Morrinsville led by B—3 at hairtime, and looked easy winners when they took their score to ti— 3, but Matamata scored another two tries and onlv stout derence kept them out In the last Tew minutes. Tries Tor Morrinsville were scored by Ensor. Hart. G. Drabble and Davidson, one or which Davidson converted. For Matamata Hopkins and Adams scored, and Canned converted a trv and kicked a penalty goal.
