MERITORIOUS VICTORY.
FRANKTON BEAT TECHNICAL. COMPETITION LEADERS GO DOWN. A fast and Interesting game between Frankton and Technical Old Boys on Saturday terminated with Frankton victorious by 10 points to 6. It was a meritorious win. Technical had only been beaten once before this season and Frankton’s superiority lay in the hard working although light forward pack wbloh kept on the ball from the time the whistle blew until the end of the game. The baoks oombined well and Frankton’s victory was all the more deserving when it is considered they were one man short. Griffiths was absent and his place on the wing was filled by the forward, Ferguson, leaving the pack with seven men. The teams were:— Frankton.—Heeps, Ferguson, Everest, McDonald, Jones, Pearson, Sykes, Elliott, Sklennrs, Gray, Jackson, Dick, Ogilvie, McPherson. Technical. Dalbeth, Haughey, Goosman, Porteus, Barber, L. St. George, Bread, Clough, Peart, Pardington, Flannagan, Rae, O’Meara, Carter, Taylor. Frankton were put on attack when Heeps fielded the ball, finding the line in the corner. From the loose first Dick and then Pearson'tried to break through. A sorum five yards from the line was won by Frankton, Sykes gaining possession an.d sending out to MoDonald on the blind side but he w r as tackled on the line. Sykes again received the ball and handing on to Jones who sent on to Pearson. The last-named attempted a field goal, which missed, and Technical forced. Frankton’s Advantage. Once again Frankton had the territorial advantage and following up a long ldck from Heeps, Everest just failed to reach the ball, which went behind. A free kick to Frankton soon after missed. Pearson had the opposition baffled when he cut in nicely, beating St. George and passing to Jones, who was tackled. Technical looked like scoring, when they invaded Frankton’s territory but off-side play relieved the tension for the latter. Further ground was gained for Frankton, when Heeps found the line out of his own half with a free kick. However, he failed to take the return kick on the full and was badly r aught in possession. After a nice series of cut-ins by Everest, he let out io James, who handed on to Pearson and ho raced for the line to score with little opposition. Jones goaled.—Frankton 5, Technical 0. . The centre of the field was occupied with some hard play until Jones cleared and Porteous put Technical on the attack with a long kick. Heeps was tackled on the line. From the scrum Frankton cleared only to be forcod back but Heeps again found the line near the twenty-five. Broad Starts Movement.
tiroaa sent nis baoks away again but PoTteous fumbled for Ferguson to break through, but he lost possession. From a scrum in Technical territory. Frankton hooked and Sykes sent on to Pearson. Jones’ pass to Everest was intercepted by Goosman, who ran from half-way with Everest in pursuit to score in the corner. Pardinglon’s kirk hit, the upright. Frankton .5, Technical 3. Porteous kicked high into Heeps’ bands. The fullback was again caught in possession nnd the forwards packed round. Technical broke away, dribbling up to the line, where Pardington snapped up and scored. His kick dropped In front of the bar. Half-time was called with the score: Technical 6 Frankton 5 With the wind against them Frank--lon kicked off and from a scrum the ball went to Everest who made a nice nun but was held up just past the twenty-five. Again Frankton broke away and in the loose, Everest got a I kick on the head and after receiving attention returned to the held. Gradually Technical forced' Frankton back. Heeps failed to field the bail and from a scrum. Rroad came round nicely but knocked on the ball. The referee warned the players at i ibis stage against headlocks in the i loose. ! Ifeeps received the ball and made a good run and with Everest in support ; combination was. assured, but the fullback sent .1 poor pass to the centre, and the ball went out. Frankton made several good at- • tempts to break away and seemed cerI lain to score, when Everest caught Dalbeth in possession. Pearson picked I up and dived for the line but lost the
ball and Technical forced. Again Technical attacked. Heeps took possession and after a good run, handed on to Everest, who sent baok to Heeps. He was tackled close to the line. A scrum on the spot was won by Frankton and Jackson went over close to the posts. Jones made sure of the kick. Frankton 10, Technical 6. Technical on Attaok. Although TeohnioaL were soon on the attaok, Frankton did not allow them the advantage for long. Everest made a good nun, handing on to MoDonald, who took a diffloukt pass before he was brought down. Heeps was the next to receive the ball, and he fumbled but Ferguson was In support and fell on the ball. After Heeps foroed, Jones followed up from the twenty-five and handed on to Pearson. Porteous gained possession and the ball went out. Again Jones was prominent but the movement broke down, when Everest fumbled. A oertain try was lost. Broad worked the (blind with St. George when Technical won a sorum near the touch, but Pearson came round, bringing St. George down Just In time. Teohnioal had Frankton well held when Heeps made another good run with Everest alongside him and play operated in -the oentre of the field. Frankton were again defending well when the final whistle blew with the soore unchanged: Frankton ... 10 Technical 6 Mr E. H. Dickey was referee.
