Surrey Collapses.
NEW ZEALAND’S EASY WIN. BRILLIANT HITTING BY WEIR. GREGORY SCORES A CENTURY. (From the special correspondent of the' United Press Association with the team.) (Received July 31, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 30. I The New Zealand cricketers had a ' very creditable win over Surrey today. After scoring 495 in their first linings the visitors made 198 for five wickets in their second outing and declared. The county, who made a Irst innings score of 277 collapsed n their second knock, being all out for 274, Gregory scoring a brilliant century. This left the tourist violorious by 143 runs. Bere'ft of bowlers through the illness of Cowie through leg trouble and : Dunning the New Zealanders delayed J their declaration until lunch. | Scoring briskly, Weir gave a fine J display of clean hitting, his score in-
cluding two huge sixe's, on to the pavilion roof, and six fours.
Wallace was enterprising and hit eight fours. He was dismissed when a very fine throw-in hit the stumps.
Gover was not particularly troublesome in either innings, but the pitch was enough to break the heart of any fast bowler. Still he may be recalled for the third test, but a big body of opinion favours Fames.
Page, appearing in an unusual role, i opening the bowling, took a wicket j with his first ball. After this Surrey j scored rapidly. Get Runs or Get Out. Instructions to get runs or ge‘t out 1 were issued by Holmes, when the s score was 86. Gregory scored a brilliant century at the rate of one run a minute. He hit thirteen fours. Surrey collapsed after tea before tho slow bowling of Moloney, Gallichan and Vivian. New Zealand’s success was doubly i creditable in view of the perfection of ‘ the pitch and depletion of the attack. . The bowlers were’ supported by ex- i cellent catching. With Cowie, Dunning, and (Roberts 1 all on the’ casualty list, the New Zealanders have a battle-scarred legion for the second game against Glamorgan to-morrow. Details:
