OBITUARY.
MRS M. STUART BOYD. WELL KNOWN NOVELIST. (Special to Time.#.> AUCKLAND, Saturday. The death occurred in Auckland this week of Mrs Mary Stuart Boyd, aged 76, a well-known novelist and widow of the late Mi- Alexander Stuart Boyd, a leading English artist and Illustrator. She was an intimate friend of many prominent, writers, including the late Sir James Barrie, and Bret Harte. Mrs Boyd had a rare collection of signed first editions. THE REV F. T. READ. The de ith has oo jurred of the Rev. “Frederick Thomas Mend, aged 70. a member of the North Canterbury Hospital Board and a member of ttie executive of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, and acting as supernumery minister at the llenthcote Methodist Church. Mr Read had a long association with the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association, being an executive member from 1930 to the time of his death. He was president from 193 1 to April. 1935, ami was during part of that time chairman of the benevolent. committee of the branch. He volunteered for active service In 191 i and was chaplain on the hospital ship Marama in 1915 going to Egypt. He made threi trips n that vessel from Egypt t<» England with the wounded and except for nine months spent at the Machine gun camp at Pa pawn! remained with her until he returned to New Zealand in 1918.
