FOOD AND NUTRITION.
A Book About Diet. Dr. G. B. Chapman, D.D.S., of Auckland, after years of study of food and nutrition, has published' a small book, “Modern Food Habits.’’ The volume Is dedicated “to all mothers who, having: faced death to create life, should be the most eager to prolong It,” and it contains numerous reolpes, contributed by Mrs Dorothea Turner. The human machine, the most wonderful and sensitive thing in the world, Is not studied by the average man or woman as It should be. It draws nutriment from the food eaten, but that food should be carefully chosen and properly pre-
pared. The author mentions that the League of Nations called upon the nations to institute inquiries into the dietary habits of their peoples "with a view to establishing eventually the nutritional prevention of ill-health.” In a series of artioles, based on personal observation, experiment and study, the author states the values of foods, and outlines what he calls “a oommon-sense workfng scheme,” and fortunately the foodstuffs mentioned are neither difficult to obtain nor very dear. “Optimum nutrition” Is a phrase now frequently mentioned at Home, and those who do not get it fall short of their potential level of positive health and vitality as compared with mere absence of defeot. This book is obviously designed to show the reader how to obtain “optimum nutrition." “Modern Food Habits.” By G. B. Chapman, D.D.S. Thomas Avery and Sons, Ltd.
