OOIYIINQ TO NEW ZEALAND. SERIES OF BRILLIANT PLAYS. One of the greatest engagements ever made by J. C. Williamson is that %f Fay Compton, one of England’s leading actresses, who will come to Australia to open in Melbourne under thle firm’s management on October 23. She will be supported by a London company of eight artists: Bruno Barnabe (leading man), who appeared with Elizabeth Bergner in London in “Escape Me Never”; Michael Wilding, Peter Dearing, Stafford Hilliard, Jack MoNaughton, Ann Godrington, Hayley Bell, and Yvette Anning. The opening play will be “Victoria Regina,’’ which is the sensation of London. It was banned for a long time by the censor until the Duke of Windsor, then the King, brought his influence to bear and had the censorship removed. It traces the principal events in the life of Queen Victoria. Other productions will include “■George and Margaret,” by Gerald Savory, the son of Grace Lane, who appeared in Australia in “Fresh Fields” and other plays; “Proscenium,” by Ivor Novello; six one-act plays by Noel Coward; and “Tovarich,” by Jacques Deval, the story of two Russian irlstocrats in Paris.

This season will be one of the most lotable theatrical events in many /ears.
