FIRST ANNUAL BALL.

WAIKATO AERO CLUB. A BRILLIANT FUNCTION*. With “flying" colours the dominant note in a vivid decorative scheme ot scarlet and silver, the club colours, the Regent Ballroom presented a brilliant scene last evening on the occasion of the first annual ball of the Waikato branch of the Auckland Aero Club, when a very large attendance spent a memorable evening. Model 'planes, lent by the Hamilton Model Aeroplane Club, struck an appropriate note, swaying overhead, the central one being illuminated, and an irridescent silver plane hung poised in the blue sky and fleecy clouds that formed the background of the stage. Scarlet lights outlined the stage, and scarlet flowers and greenery banked the edge, and three huge bowls ol brilLlant scarlet arum lilies and silver fern fronds had been placed along the front, the central one being arranged with lilies, camellias, berries ana scarlet gum flowers. Fine bamboo, painted scarlet and silver, was massed at either side of the stage, and huge bowls of scarlet lilies and scarlet and silver bamboo had been placed in front, jardinieres of scarlet and silver hollyhocks and bamboo flanking the sides. Scarlet blossoms and silver fern fronds climbed riotously up the trellis work on either side of the stage, and scarlet butterflies rested among the scarlet blossom and silver and scarlet foliage which covered the archways by the trellises. Gay strings of bunting hung across the ceiling, and cascades of scarlet streamers hung down to mask the four square silver and scarlet lampshades, while Japanese lanterns suffused the warm glow of the scarlet lights. Large flags covered the edge of the supper balcony, and scarlet and silver bamboo was massed about the pillars in the ballroom most effectively, with here and there a scarlet and silver spike of hollyhock. o\or the stage and about the hall propellers again struck a note of aviation. Huge bowls of scarlet camellias and berries had been arranged about the supper balcony, and the tables, the work of Mrs F. D. Pinfold, looked delightful, the decorations being carried out again in scarlet and silver, with lanterns and scarlet lights overhead. Silver candlesticks with scarlet candles were arranged along the tables with silver vases and rustic baskets of scarlet japonica, berries, camellias and asparagus fern interspersed. Trails of fern and scarlet blossom were also artistically arranged about the tables. During the evening a delicious supper was served. Excellent music was played by the Regent Dance Band, old melodies being a pleasant and appreciated feature. . , Jo the committee whose splendid organisation and ceaseless eneigies and efforts had done so much towards the brilliant success of the function the warmest praise is due.
