BURWEN PIG STUD
SOW MAKES 411 GUINEAS. COMPLETE DISPERSAL EFFEOTED. SATISFACTORY AVERAGE PRICES. As was expected, the complete dispersal sale of Messrs Burwen Ltd.'s pedigree pig stud at Te Rapa yesterday attracted buyers from far afield, and in a steady sale a satisfactory clearance was effected. Several fine blond lines were represented In the offering, and the splendid figure of 411 gulpcas was brought for the Tamworth matron, Burwena Nancy 2nd. This daughter of Burleigh Choice from the imported boar Blythewood Myrtle Duke, met with spirited • competition before, she was knocked down to Mr A. Swanee, of Whatawhata. A prize-winner at the Sydney Royal Show and unbeaten this season in New Zealand, the Tamworth boar, Wollongbar Banker (imp.), met the market at 20 guineas and became the property of Mr J. K. McArthur, Tuakau. Top figures in the Berkshire seotion went to the well-known hoar Dominion Fashions Reo 1 (Dominion Reo —Dominion First Fashion), while the sow Westown Juanita 2nd, a prolific show-ring winner, was sold to Mr G. Jamieson, of Horotlu, for Hi guineas. Berkshire Boars In Demand. The sale oommenoed with the Berkshlres, and as usual the boars in this section sold freely to average 9 gns. The sows were also In request and prices ranging from 5 gns to lli gns were obtained. Over all the Berkshires realised the satisfactory average of 7i gns. Buyers opened cautiously on the Tamfoorths but a good line of sows with litters livened the bidding and the majority of the lots were quitted at firm rates. Malden sows were if anything quieter of sale, and the boars did not elicit the competition evident in the Berkshire section and the younger pigs were not sought. Considering, however, that there were no reserves, the offering was cleared exceptionally well. Apart from those mentioned above, other good sales were:— Berkshlres. Burwen ShoxVboy 111 (2/12/36). P.
