The distant roar of artillery can he heard north, south and west of Peking. Fighting is now proceeding at Papaoshan, in addition to Nanyuan and Tongshan, in the environs of the city, suggesting that the Japanese have begun a determined drive to dislodge the whole of the 29th Army from the Peking area. Fighting at Tunghaow ceased at nightfall. It is reported from Hongkong that the Japanese Government has ordered its nationals to evacuate the southern coastal cities of Swatow, Amoy and Foochow. TIENTSIN, July 27. Japanese bombing aeroplanes from Tientsin attacked the Chinese barracks at Ilsiyuan and Nanyuan this morning. They inflicted the heaviest casualties suffered there.
