FIGHTING IN PEKING.
A SEVERE OUTBREAK. JAPAN’S FIRST MAIN OBJECTIVE.. CAPTURE OF A TOWN. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright PEKING, July 28. Severe fighting has broken out in Peking, which is believed to be the first main objective of the Japanese attack. British and other foreign troops have manned the gates of the Legation quarter as a precaution. Chinese troops are rushing up to Peking in preparation for its defence. The Japanese claim that they have captured Nanyuan, five miles south of Peking. It is announced from the Japanese headquarters at Tientsin that Japan has no intention of making the 100,000,000 Chinese in North China the object of the punitive action. This will be directed solely against llie Chinese opposing Japanese troops.
