BRITAIN AND ITALY.
NO AGGRESSIVE INTENTION. IMPORTANT DIPLOMATIC STEP. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, July 28. The conversation between Mr Neville Chamberlain and Count Grandi was held at Mr Chamberlain’s request. It lasted an hour and a-half. It Is regarded as one of the most important diplomatic steps Mr Chamberlain has taken yet. The diplomatic correspondent of the Daily Mail states that the Prime Minister assured Count Grandi that the British Government has no aggressive Intentions towards Italy, but, on the contrary, was anxious to work out a policy of collaboration with her. The Daily Telegraph says that well authenticated evidence suggests that Signor Mussolini lately has persuaded himself that the British attitude on ■several important questions can be explained only by the hypothesis that Britain is preparing an ultimate attack on Italy. Mr Chamberlain emphasised that this Is an illusion which must be dispelled. Britain, he said, is neither surrendering her own interests nor coveting those of any of the other Powers.
