CURRENT PROGRAMMES.
ROXY THEATRE. "This’ll Make You Whistle" present* popular Jack Buohanan as a young man in the embarrassing position of being engaged to two girls at the same time, whose attempt* to extrioate himself from the dilemma land him in further difficulties. Scenes switch from London to a French seaside resort, for which a fashionable hotel was reconstructed, complete with iceskating rink and a magnificent 'swimming pool. It is in this setting that one of the big dance ensemble* is staged. The tune is entitled "The Wrong Rhumba." Jack Buchanan dances, sings and make* love, and in a terrific comedy climax is pursued by French police as a oriminal —in fact, he does all those things that have endeared him to fllmgoers. "Flying Hostess" deals with the turbulent romance of a charming air hostess and an ace transport pilot who well in love with her, but who still hated air hostesses because he felt there was no place for women in the air. The glamour and the adventure of the huge airliners provide the background for the play. THEATRE ROYAL. "The Night is Young" is a colourful romance of Vienna, with Ramon Novarro as a gay young Austrian archduke and Evelyn Laye as a ballet dancer. Song hits such as "The Night is Young," "When I Grow Too Old to Dream," "Wiener Schnitzel" and others embellish the romance. The cast includes such talented players as Charles Butterworth, Una Merkel, Edward Everett Horton, Donald Cook and Albert Conti. "BULLDOG DRUMMOND ESCAPES." "Bulldog Drummond Escapes,” to be soreened to-morrow, is filled with romance and adventure. Heather Angel, Ray Milland and Sir Guy Standing head the cast, STATE THEATRE. "People Will Talk" is a very amusing comedy dealing with the attempt of Charles Ruggles and Mary Boland to straighten out the marital affairs of their daughter and son-in-law by staging a mock battle royal themselves, with the idea of showing the younger couple how. silly it is. But Miss Boland forgets it is all in fun and begins resenting her husband’s enthusiasm for his new role, and trouble really begins. "It’s a Small World," featuring Spencer Tracy and Wendy Barrie, is a hilarious comedy which concerns a head-on collision of two high-power cars, and its romantic results. “HILLS OF OLD WYOMING." To-morrow’s programme will include "Hills of Old Wyoming,” an adventure of Hopalong Cassidy, featuring William Boyd, and "The Crime Nobody Saw," with Lew Ayres in the leading role. REGENT THEATRE. “When Love is Young" deals with an obscure country girl who accompanies her uncle to New York to study singing. There she meets a theatrical press agent whose exploits land her in gaol, but eventually help her to musical comedy stardom. Returning to her h/)me town, she is disappointed in finding that the school hero she had looked forward to meeting again is merely a small-town failure. Kent Taylor is the nimble-witted press agent, and Walter Brerfnan brings an entirely new character to the screen in his humorous role as the uncle who operates a sidewalk telescope in New York. In addition to singing "When Love is Young" and "Did Anyone Ever Tell You?" Virginia Bruce dances for the first time on the screen. CIVIO THEATRE. "As Good as Married” Is a very entertaining comedv-drama. Alexander Drew, the wealthy architect, who marries his pretty young secretary simply to save on his income tax and to avoid the annoyance of breach of promise blackmail, finds that there should be more In marriage than this. Alan Mowbray, as his friend and collaborator In both business and private life, appears as Wally, the husband who is always collecting girls’ telephone numbers on his shirt, whose wife thanks him for the tip when lie says he is about to spend a week-end at home. Ernest Cossart, Walter Pidgeon, Tala Birell and Katherine Alexander are in supporting roles. "STEP LIVELY, JEEVES." P. G. Wodehouse’s amusing creation Jeeves has been brought to the screen, and will be seen in "Step Lively, Jeeves," to be shown to-morrow. Arthur Treacher lakes the role of the popular "gentleman’s gentleman."
