OFFER ACCEPTED.

HAYES PADDOCK AREA. SITE FOR STATE HOUSES. Advice was received from the Director of Housing, Mr A. Tyndall, at the meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last evening, that Cabinet had approved tiie acceptance of the council's offer of land at Hayes Paddock for the erection of State houses. Present at the meeting were the Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, in the chair, and Messrs C. Lafferty, A. M. Bisley, F. Findlay, 11. D. Caro, H. M. Hammond, R. McCaw, W. Bourne, W. A. Curteis and ,T. E. Tidd. The town clerk Mr W. L. Waddel, borough engineer, Mr R. Worley, electrical engineer, Mr I. Webster, gas engineer, Mr J. 11. Rishworth, borough Inspector, Mr J. W. Lewis, and the chief traffic inspector, Mr W. E. Nicholson, were also present. In advising of the Cabinet’s decision Mr Tyndall stated that as the property referred to was held as endowment in aid of the borough funds it would be necessary to take it under the provisions of the Public Works Act, and the Public Works Department had been instructed accordingly. All the necessary action would be taken by the proclamation branch of that department. Stock Route to Frankton. Reporting on a proposed -stock route to Frankton round the north end of file lake, the borough engineer stated that the route would need to go via Domain Drive, Killarnoy Road, Greenwood Street, Lincoln and Chilcott Streets and over tho railway crossing at the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company’s factory. If this route were finally deckled upon, said Mr Worley, it would be necessary to widen Domain Drive. Consideration of the new route was deferred In the meantime. Fairfield Bridge Compensation. The secretary of the Waikato County Council, Mr C. F. E. Barton, wrote advising that his council was In favour of an additional payment of £ISOO being made to the Roose Shipping Company in view of the loss sustained by tho company In the erection of the Fairfield Bridge, provided that the Public Works would contribute onehalf of the amount and that local authorities would agree to contribute the balance In the same proportions as provided In tiie warrant authorising the construction of tho bridge. It was decided to refer this matter to the Trading and Finance Committee for consideration.
