DAIRY ZONING.
ELIMINATING COMPETITION. OPPOSITION AT MORRINSVILLE. (Times Special Reporter.) MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday. “Zoning apparently does what I have always set my face against—it eliminates competition,” said Mr J. E. Leeson, chairman, at the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Co-operative Dairy Company to-day. “I am satisfied,” he continued, “that if competition is done away with the farmer-supplier is going to have a hard time.” It was impossible and unnecessary for zoning to be carried out in a district such as that served by the company. “The amount to be saved in this district,” he said, “is so Infinitesimal that it does not warrant the expense. “Sir Franols Frazer would be better employed In Wellington eliminating the overlapping of the dairy Industry offices there.” Strenuous Opposition. The attitude which had been adopted by the company’s directors in recent discussions with representatives of the Executive Commission of Agriculture was one of strenuous opposition to any “buying and selling of suppliers.” Under the two-factory rule, stated the secretary, Mr J. L. Faulkner, there was no real choice for dairy farmers in many areas, due to the fact that the two nearest factories Tniglit be controlled by the same company. “This company views with grave conoern,” he said, “this two-factory proposal, since it has been operating for many years in certain areas, quite handy to its faotory, the supply from which will possibly be eliminated under this two-factorv rule.” The future of some 20 per cent, of the suppliers of the Morrinsville company is affected by the decision regarding the two-factory rule, stated Mr Faulkner. The following resolution was carried unanimously: “That this meeting of shareholders in the Morrinsville Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., appreciates the discussion upon the question of zoning in the Waikato, and views with concern the possibility of any of the present suppliers to the company being ordered to supply any other company, and the right of operating for new suppliers on present cartage service routes being taken away; and this meeting authorises the board to take all necessary steps to preserve the interests of the company.” _________
