Mako (United States) defeated R. D. Tuckey and F. H. Wilde (Great Britain), 6—3, 7—6, 7—9, 12—10. Some Exolting Play. The Englishmen were virtually a scratch pair owing to Hughes’ retirement. Play was vigorous In the first set, which the Americans won owing to greater decisiveness. The overhead shots on both sides were erratic. In the second set the games went with the service to 5—5, when the Americans broke Wilde’s service and Mako held his for the set.

The Englishmen, struggling dourly against the Americans’ greater allround Incjsivencss, took the lead on their service 5 —4, 6 —5, 7—6, B—78 —7 in the third set. Then, volleying finely, they captured Mako’s service, to win the set, 9—7.

A desperate battle was witnessed in the fourth set. The games were even until the fifteenth, when Wilde lost, his service after two deuces. Mako held four match points on his service, but Britain won the game with a final lucky lob. Tuckey, who hitherto had been serving excellently, scoring many aces, lost his service for the first time in the match in the 21st. game, after which Budge rattled America home with a love game. In the international tournament at .Vest End Xaeyert defeated Crawford, 3—3, 7—9, o—l.

McGrath entered the final by de feating Bromwich, 6—4, 5 —7, 6 —3.
