JOY AND SADNESS.

MR SEMPLE IN AUSTRALIA. VISIT TO HIS OLD HOME. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel, Copyright. SYDNEY, July 27. The Hon. R. Semple, after an absence of 30 years, paid a visit to his birthplace, Sofaia. “ Probably my visit to the spots where I frollicked in my boyhood will be mingled with sadness,” said Mr Semple, “ because many of the dear old faces I then knew will be missing. I have met men since I returned to this country who were virile and strong In the mines, struggling with the stupendous tasks that were their lot in those days, and are now crumbled and withered old men, and that has sent a feeling of sadness through my soul."
