SKI JUMPING.
BRILLIANT AMERICANS. MOUNT COOK CONTESTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) THE HERMITAGE, Monday. Ski Jumping such as New Zealanders have never before seen in their own country was staged by members of the American team, when the grand national ski championships were opened at Ball Hut to-day. Richard Durrance, the American champion Jumper, travelled through the air like a swallow to win the jump with 95fft. D. Bradley, America, was second with 89 1-3 ft. Brian MacMillan, New Zealand, off a smaller jumping platform, finished fourth on the list with a good leap of 61£ft. The results, representing the best of three Jumps, were:—Durrance (America), 95Jft., 1; D. Bradley (America), 89 1 -3ft., 2; S. Bradley (America), 83 2-3 ft., 3. Others:—B. MacMillan (New Zealand), 61Jft.; J. Laughlin (America), 56|ft.; H. Wigley (New Zealand), 52 1 -6ft.
The slalom over a steep and difficult course laid out by Durrance alongside of Ball Hut, was run in a light snowstorm this afternoon. Results (combined time for two runs) :—Durrance, Jm 495, t; J. Bradley, 2m 12s, 2; A. Wfgley (New Zealand). 2m 36 3-ss. Others:—S. Bradley. 2m 425; B. MacMillan (New Zealand), 2m 52 l-ss: J. Laughlin. 2m 58 2-ss; B.
