STATEMENT BY GOLFER. ALLEGED UNSPORTSMANSHIP. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. CHICAGO, July 24. Replying to a demand by the Professional Golfers’ Association, threatening suspension unless he apologised for his recent statement concerning the sportsmanship of British crowds at golf matches, Ralph Guldahl said:— “ The only thing to which British and American sportsmen could object would be insincere and forced apologies in a matter that has been magnified far beyond reasonable proportions.” A message from New York on July 20 stated that Guldahl, on returning to the United States with the Ryder Cup team, made an intensely antiBritish statement. “It was my first trip over,” he said, “and I hope I shall never see British people again.
