TE AROHA CLUB'S PROGRESS. AERODROME IN SIGHT. (Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Saturday. Considerable progress was reported at the annual meeting or the Te Aroha Aero Club last evening. Mr R. J. Jones presided. The balance-sheet showed receipts £ls is 4d and expenditure £73 3s Bd. Assets were listed at £l6O tos 4d, a decrease of £SB 2s 4d on the previous year. The president reported that the pageant, for which complete arrangements had been made, had to be cancelled on account of bad weather, but the ball was a decided success. Conferences Held. The question of the establishment of an aerodrome had occupied the attention or the executive committee during the year. A conference or local bodies bad been convened, with the result that matters had been furthered, and a proposal was made relative to a Government subsidy. After a suitable site had been selected, the Government was approached Tor assistance. The proposal relative to an aerodrome at or near Te Aroha was not acceptable, a more central position Tor a wider district being then suggested. The outcome was a local bodies' conference at Matamata, when Te Aroha, Morrinsville and Matamata local bodies were represented and much enthusiasm was evident. A committee was set up, which is to report to a further conference. A deputation waited upon the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Transport, on the occasion of his recent visit, and a very sympathetic hearing was given, the Minister assuring the deputation members that ir the local bodies of the district would Join in the project, the Government would be prepared to grant a subsidy. Taken as a whole the prospects of an aerodrome at Ngarua were bright. The balance-sheet was adopted. Officers Appointed. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr R. Coulter. Thorn; secretary, Mr Townsend; treasurer, Mr C. Kingsley-Smith; club captain, Mr J. Ashcroft; vice-captain, Mr J. Lord; committee, Messrs .N. Quirk, T. Lester, R. J. Jones. J. Lord, J. Walker. K. Elsinore and A. B. Hanby; hon. solicitors, Messrs. .Mcbolls and Townsend; auditors, Messrs Hume and Wyatt. The annual subscription was fixed at 5 s.
