SURPRISE PARTY.
HOUSE-WARMING AT MATANQI. A most enjoyable house-warming, which took the form of a surprise party, was tendered Mr and Mrs J. Shaw at their residence, at Matangl, on Tuesday evening. A large number of their friends gathered, and wers weloomed by Mr and Mrs Shaw, and a very happy time was spent. The young people enjoyed an informal dance in the spacious ballroom, the music being played by Mr T. Shaw (accordion), and Mr Roy Meacham. Mr 'H. Thompson was (M.C., and a novelty dance was won by Mrs E. Thompson and Mr A. Bryant. Those who did not dance, spent a pleasant time playing cards. Songs by Miss Elsie Shaw and Mr J. Hanna, of Cambridge, and duets by Misses Elsie and Ruby Shaw were much appreciated. After a delicious supper Mr 'H. Maryohurch expressed appreciation of Mr and Mrs Shaw’s work in the district, extending over many years, and wished them continued success. Mrs French then presented. Mrs Shaw with a set of Jugs, as a token of esteem from the ladies- present. Mr Shaw returned thanks and they were accorded musical honours, the evening closing with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Among those present were:—Mesdames J. Shaw, >C. French, Marychurch, E.
