TREATMENT FOR SILK BTOOKINGB. Before you wear new silk stocking’s try this plan. Add a small tablespoonful of salt to a pint of tepid water and allow It to dissolve. Place the stockings in the water, then squeeze out all superfluous water, and put them into a bowl containing soapsuds. Squeeze again and hang them up to dry by the toes. This treatment lengthens the life of silk stockings. The salt strengthens the fabric and “sets” the dye. For Bcorched Linen. If only slightly scorched all traces can be removed by exposing the article to strong sunlight out of doors. If really badly scorched take four onions, peel them, and extract the Juice. Mix this with 4ozs. Fuller's earth, Joz. soap, and a pint of vinegar. Boil all together and, when nearly cold, put on the scorched place and allow the article to dry in the air.. Wtxen a Saucepan Is Burnt. Burnt saucepans are sometimes filled with soda and water in order to remove the burnt portions. This method, however, is liable to make them burn easily when they are used again. An alternative is to fill them with salt and water, leaving until the following day, when the contents should be brought to boiling point. By this means the burnt parts are easily removed aiul there are no bad after-effects.
