Formed with tne object of fostering the social and sports side of the Second Medium Battery’s activities, the social club experienced a very successful year, which was reviewed in the report presented to the annual meeting last evening. Major E. F. Clayton-Greene presided. At the invitation of Cambridge branch of the Waikato Regiment, several members travelled to Cambridge and played them at basketball, handsoccer and medicine ball. The battery did very well but so far a return match had not been possible. Basketball, tennis and badminton courts had been marked out in the Drill Hall and although the two latter had not yel been used, basketball had proved a popular game with the men. A team had been entered in the Interhouse competitions at the Hamilton Y.M.C.A., and was meeting with success. A set of boxing gloves had been donated during the year, continued the report, and these had been used continuously, providing excellent training. A Royal New Zealand Artillery football team would visit Hamilton later In the season. The social club commenced activities last year with a dance and It proved so popular that It was decided to make the function an annual affair. This year the fixture was on a larger scale and was a success both socially and financially. The battery had completed a very successful training year culminating in the annexing of the trophy competed for by the medium batteries of the Dominion.
