CRICKET IN ENGLAND.

SECOND TEST. PLAYERS IN ENGLAND. LACK OF ECOURAGEMENT. United Press Assn.—Elec. Te!. Copyright (Received July 23, 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 22. C. G. Macartney, writing in the Herald, says: “England’s cricket team to meet New Zealand in the second test at Manchester to-morrow, seems to point to the -selectors' “safety first" policy. Encouragement to players of the future is lacking. The English side is strong and should be superior to New Zealand.

“ There appears to exist in England plenty of good material but the small amount of encouragement it receives does not allow it to develop along the proper lines."
