OTOROHANGA NOTES.

SOCIAL AFTERNOON. About 45 members of the Otorohanga Central Croquet Club gathered at the home of Mrs Burton, Tahoro Street, for a social afternoon and a session of flag bridge. A delicious afternoon tea was served by club members. The successful bridge players were Mesdames Thom- [ son, Corbett and Greenshields. HOOKEY CLUB BALL. ANNUAL FUNCTION. The annual ball of the Otorohanga Hockey Club drew the usual large attendance of dancers and spectators. O’Connell's Orchestra provided the dance music, dancing competitions being a feature of the evening. The winners of the spot waltzing competition were Mr Logan Cameron and Mrs H. Perry, a novelty waltz being won by Mr Logan Cameron and Mrs Cameron, snr. ANNUAL LUNCHEON. MISSIONARY UNION. The Otorohanga branch of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union was attended by 40 members for the seventh annual luncheon of the society. Among those present were Mrs Stephenson Craig (president of the

Waikato P.A., Hamilton), Mrs D. Craig (Hamilton), Mrs Mcßeath (Frankton), Sister Elizabeth Allen (Presbyterian youth worker), the Rev. and Mrs T. Brabyn (Te Kuiti), and Mrs H. W. Payne (Methodist). Apologies were received from Te Awamutu, whose representatives were unable to arrange suitable transport. Mrs Slatter (Honikiwi) lit the candles on the birthday cake, the Rev. S. W. Webber referring feelingly to the work of the late Mrs T. 11. Burton, who had organised tills annual function seven years ago. Sacred songs were contributed, and two duets by Mrs Slatter and Miss Williamson (Honikiwi) were greatly appreciated. Mrs S. Craig delivered an interesting and instructive address regarding the Missionary Union, and stressed the Importance of the work of women in church affairs. A solo by Mrs Higgins was much appreciated, a hymn being sung by those present.
