HILLCREST SCHOOL.
ACCOMMODATION PROBLEM. .\‘EW CLASSROOM APPROVED. A problem which has been a source of worry to successive school committees at Hlllcrest for several years will be overcome as a result of advice that Cabinet has approved of a grant for the erection 01’ an extra classroom at the Hillcrest school. The growth of the school in recent years has been considerable. and the existing building of three classrooms was found many months ago to be inadequate. At present there are 175 children on the roll, and for the last two years it has been found necessary to utilise a cloakroom as a classroom. Recognising the need for additional accommodation the late school committee made representations to the late Government for another classroom, but without succes. Recently the new committee approached Mr C. A. Barrell, M.P., who inspected the school, and took up the matter with the Minister of Education,‘ the. Hon. P. Fraser, who gave it, a favourable hear ing. omcial advice of Cabinet‘s approval of a grant for a new classroom was received yesterday by Mr E. M. Mastcrs‘ chairman of the school committee. who said the committee was gratified that their efforts had not been in vain. He expressed the hope that an early start would be made. Mr F. \‘nuse, who was headmaster at Hillcrest. has left on transfer to llauvcra, and Mr liosser. of Auckland. is relieving in his place. I __._ __.__.__._ I
