ABSENCE OF CRIME.

GREYMOUTH CONGRATULATED. CHARGES AGAINST LABOURER. _— (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOU'I‘H, Thursday. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning. Mr Justice Northcroi‘t congratulated the district on the absence of name. There was only one case listed, that of James Forbes, alias John James Machn (40), a labourer, who was charged with the unluwful entry of a dwellinghouse by night and also with lndeeeni assault.

The accused pleaded not guilty and conducted his own defence. The jury aéquitlcd accused on the first charge and returned a Verdict or “guilty, but unpx‘emeditated" on the second. Accused was remanded for sentence until Tuesday.
