WAIKATO RUGBY TEAM. AUGKLAND’S IMPRESSIVE VICTORY. FORWARDS HANDLE LIKE BACKS. Displaying twice the polish and nippiness of the \V‘aikato team, the Auckland Rugby representatives im—pressively defeated Weikato when the annual match was played at Bushy Park yesterday. The weather was ideal and the ground was in perfect order. The attendance exceeded 5000—3. record crowd for an off day. Playing with a strong wind behind them, Auckland established a handy lead early. the forwards, handling like backs, being too fast for the local team. The score at half time was 13—4 in the \‘isitors'favOur, this spell being keenly fought, with little spectacular play. in the second half the Auckland team threw the ball about in great. style and highly spectacular Rugby was witnessed. Leeson Outstandlng. The pick of the forwards was J. Leeson (\Vaikato), who played a very dashing game and emphasised his har'l luck in not touring with the All Blacks last, year. Hadley and McLean (Auckland) were not particularly outstanding, the former just holding his own in hooking. Auckland's backs were very impressive, perhaps the most outstanding being Fletcher, the speedy straight—running centre. LL Solomon was sound at second five—eighths, but was well watched by his younger brother, G. Solomon, who played in this position for W'atkato. Perdington and F. Cassidy were always prominent in the Wailiato pack and the pick of the local backs was. A. Lissette. L. Russell, the half, made few mistakes, and was always in the thick of the play. Harl and Reid earned their places. The teams were——

Good kicking by Bush put Auckland in a good position, and when the backs worked Fletcher cut through prettily. to be up—ended. Waikato then forced down, but a few minutes later Hart secured and broke through, kicking well. D. Solomon was being watched very closely by his brother. and could not take any liberties. Offside play by the Auckland forwards gave Wai—kato a free, but they took no advan—tage from the up—and-mnder kick. Carson and McLean leading Auckland down—field.
