‘ cnIcKE-r panes. ‘ ~ i A very well attended cricket dance‘ was held in the Te Mats Hall recently; 'Gilmour Brothers Orchestra playedi the music and Mr I-‘. Vernon was M.C.i .\‘ovelty dances were won by Miss Chm-mien Cussen and Mr J. .\lcGracken,J and 11155 G. Vernon and Mr H. Cush~l man. A waltzing competition was won by Miss N. Bregmen and Mr J. P. Porter, Mrs 11. Goodwin acting as Judge. A very lolly evening was spent and the Cricket Club funds were well augmented as a result. GIFT EVENING. . A most enjoyable gift evening was teidered Miss Rita Thomson, at Huapu c on Thursday in the school, on the occasion of her approaching mar—riage. The evening was organised by Mrs Peter Liddell and Miss G. Swann. strongly supported by Roapuke vtriends. As the guest of honour and her mother entered the room they were met by Miss .\lavis Ward. who presented each or them with a beautiful shower bouquet. Dancing was the chief amusement, music being supplied by Mesdames W. A. Thomson and Cartwright. Miss M. Trulove and Messrs Cartwright, R. J. Nicholson and G. McQueen. Mr Cartwright was M.C. After supper Mr R. J. Nicholson and Mr C. Swann spoke in,high terms of the sues to! the evening and asked her to open the parcels, after winsh musical honours were accorded. Mr F‘. Gore suitably returned thanks for his fiancee. ‘ . i OAHD EVENING. ' The second of the series of 500 evenings was held in the Te Mata School room on Friday evening. There was again a splendid attendance and the evening was very enjoyable. The ladies‘ prize was won by Mrs H. Watkins and the men's by Mr B. Millar. Booby prizes were awarded to Mrs J. H. Phillips and Mr L. Galvan. HOCKEY DANoI. A dance in aid of the “All Black" hockey team funds was held in the Hall at the Waitomotono Pah. on Satur—day evening. The Hall had been offered by the Maoris for the occasion and music was kindly played by their string hand. There was a good attendance of Visitors from Te Mats and Raglan and the evening was a very jolly one. Mr Fred Nicholson was M.G. The funds will go towards the travelling ‘expenses of the hockey team, which will visit Taranaki in June. _ PERSONAL. ‘ - i .\ilss Rita Sohnaokenberg. of Kawhia, is spending an extended holiday with Mrs W. Thomson, “Tilc Lowlands," Antes. Mrs J. Thomas. of Moerangi. has been spending a holiday in Auckland. .\lrs F. Andrews. of Hutuwai, has re—turned home after a month's holiday tour of Te Kauwhala. Auckland and Raglan. Mrs R. J. Nicholson has been spend—ing a short holiday in Hamilton and Auckland.
