RECORD FROST
COLD SNAP EXPERIENCED. WAIKATO'S NEW FIGURES. RECORDING AT MORRINSVILLE. (special to Times.) MORBIN-SVILLE, Monday. A record frost recording for thel‘ \Vaikato was registered this morningi when on the Department of Agrirul—i ture's instrument at Morrinsville 10.9‘ degrees were shown. The previous record was for a recording of 16.4 degrees made at the Ruakura Farm of Instruction, in Augi ust, 1929. RECORDING AT HAMILTON. A SNOW-LIKE MANTLE. An exceptionally heavy frost was recorded in Hamilton this morning, 10.6 degrees being recorded at Buakura, and 11 degrees at VVhittora. The heaviest frost this year. 12.4 degrees, was recorded on May 9. Early morning risers found conditions outside resembling the aftermath of a snowstorm. Twelve frosts of varying intensity were experienced in Hamilton during May. In May, 1935, there were 16 frosts, the heaviest of which was 12.5 degrees. m VERY com mourn. HAMILTON TEMPERATURES. The following temperatures were recorded in the hail of a Hamilton private residence last month:~——l-lighest day, 63 degrees; lowest day, 5.1; highest night, 55; lowest night. 38: average day, 59; average night, 46. The average day temperature for May, 1935. was 60 and the average night 48 degrees. May records for the period 1922-35:—Highest day. May 21, 1933. T2; lowest day, May 18. 1936, 51; highest night, May 14. 1925. 65; lowest night, May 23. 1931, 37. Last month the night temperature was five degrees below the average for the past 15 years. i ...—.... i i FROST A‘l' camsmnos. _ i HEAVIES'I‘ THIS SEASON. ‘ i (Special to Times.) ‘ CAMBRIDGE, Monday. 1 The heaviest {rostrecorded this sea—son was experienced in the Cambridge district this morning. when 12 degrees were registered. Yesterday the recording was 10 degrees. ‘ The district was covered with a mantle of white at sunrise this morn—ing, and even enclosed taps were frozen. This was the twelfth consecutive frost.
