Brilliant Weather favoured football enthusiasts at Bedford Park on Saturday and the players rose to the occasion. The Matamata versus Hinuera encounter was the chief attraction and proved one or the rnstest club games ever witnessed on this ground. It ended in the lighter but more clever Hlnuera team scoring a convincing victory. Territorially Matomata had almost as much play as the winners, but their tactics were weak and most of Hinuera's points came from Matamata’s errors. Time and again the Matamata forwards overwhelmed the Hinuera hair, only to kick too hard and allow Settle or Hawks to set their backs in motion. Matamats set a rare pace at the start and heeled from a scrum near a corner nug. Begbie, nrst live-eighth, changed direction cleverly to send his winger, Knechonc, over for an 'easy try. Ten minutes later Swap drop-i 'klcked in front or the Minamoto goal, but the ball curled wide. iiernmnn's speed. however. enabled him to catch the defence napping and score. liawite added another 'three points from a penalty and, following a hot Matalnata attack, charged it Mutamata attempt at goal to run three-quarters of the length or the field to score There was no further score in the first half, and bintamata was six points behind after having the best of the play. In the second half the fast pace was kept up, but Matamuta lost position time and again through had blunders. Speed and football bruins told in the end. and ilinuera increased their score by 1;! points. Settle. dropped a iield goal following a weak clearing Kick. A similar kick let the llinuera backs travel almost the length or the field for Germann to score, and Hawke added the Ilnal try, which he converted. in the last few minutes Sharpe led a, fierce lilatamata forward rush and scored. Fitzgerald tailed to convert. Results were: seniors: lllnuera ‘2l v. Matamata 3; PaJtetelre “WV.I Wardville H. un ore: a rare 6v. Patetere 3; Walt ; v.
