’TRANSMISOION FROM onu'rsnaunv I A MATTER OF URGENCY. ‘ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) \VELLINGTON, Thursday. The Minister of Public “'orks, the Hon. R. Semple, stated to-day that subject to certain contracts being com‘pleted, the Government would proceed i immediately with a scheme for making ‘power available on the West Coast of the South Island. He had come to the :conclusion that the best method for meeting the future demand. for some time at least, was to connect the \\'est Coast with the existing ColeridgeVVaitaki system by means of a transmission line via Arthur‘s Pass. This had been submitted to the Cabinet. and subject to certain conditions as to guaranteed contracts, had been approved. The engineer's department had been instructed to proceed in the meantime with all preliminary work as a matter of urgency. It is anticipated that power will be available in 18 months‘ time. 7
