SOUTH AUCKLAND MEETING A FAVOURABLE SEASON. LOCAL INSTRUCTION SCHEME. “The year on the whole has not been a favourable one for our indus—try," stated the report presented at the annual meeting of tiie South Auck—land branch of the New Zealand Beeheepers‘ Association. held in the X..\i.C.A. Buildings yesterday. Mr 'l‘. H. Pearson presided. It was explained in the report that the wet spring and summer retarded the bees considerably with their activities. 1 The annual field day had been heldl at Ruakura State Apiary and there was a good attendance. As it is proposed to do away with the aplary at Ruakura a new venue for the field day next year would probably have to be found. Special thanks were due to the Ruakura Farm and 'department‘ll officers for tlielr willing assistance. “Our oft-repeated request to the Government," the report continued, “for duty-tree sugar for feeding purposes has not yet been aéceded to, but we are hoping for ‘better consideration when the matter is taken up with ‘the new Government.” l Government control Suggested. The Cawthron Institute had made good progress with their investigations in the tl‘etlllllllnl. of dark and strongilavoured honey, and it. now rested with some body to produce it on a commercial scale, The co-operative company. New Zealand Honey, Ltd. llild done good work in establishing prices on the local market, but it was thought that there would be dimcul—lies in the future unless shareholders were loyal or the Government tool: over control and put all producers J“ the same footing. It was hoped that the export market, which had kept steady, would be gradually developed. “While we b.“ lieve that disease Is being kept in check," the report concluded, “one would feel much happier if our iiistructor. .\lr Winter. had more assistance. and we trust that the present Government will do its utmost. to re—establish the local instruction scheme." The election of ofllcers resulted as follows: President, Mr 'l‘. H. Pearson; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Trounson and G. B. Gow; committee, Messrs 'J. Schmidt. G. Hall. A. L. Pearson, P. A. Hillary and E, D. Williams; secretorytreasurer. Mr A. H. Davies; delegate to Dominion Conference, Mr T. H. Pearson.
