ASKED TO RETRACT.
MEMBER'S STATIMINTI. SECRETARY OFFERS EVIDENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Thursday“ After considering the evidence brought by the secretary, Mr E. S. l-lylton, the Wellington Education Board yesterday decided to ask a member, Colonel 'l‘. \\'. McDonald, to retract certain statements he made at a previous meeting about the report of the special committee set up in 1933 to consider stah’ salaries. As a result of this committee's recom—mendations Mr Hylton received an increase in salary. At a recent meeting of the Board, Colonel McDonald said this report had never been before the Board. that he had not seen a. copy. and that a sheet referring to the report had been wrongly inserted in the minute book. The evidence produced by Mr Hylton was a copy of the report with what Mr liylton stated was Colonel McDonald's handwriting on the hack. Colonel McDonald was not at yester—day‘s meeting. it being stated that he was in hospital. When the matter came up for con—sideration ‘the other tWo \Vnirarapa representatives, .\lessrs A. Donald and W. 11. Nicol, left the board room.
