CONFERENCE CONTINUES.
FARMERS Discuss INDUSTRY. ASSEMBLY A'l‘ AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, ’l‘Hursday. The keen and lengthy discussion aroused by several remits at to-day's sitting of the 36th annual Auckland Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union impeded the transaction of business and little progress was made with the heavy programme of remits. The conference is being held at Holds—worth Buildings, Albert Street Auckland. the president, Mr H. 0. Melisop, presiding. The excellent work of a similar nature that had been performed by the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was stressed by speakers when discussing a VVaikato and Bay of Plenty remit to the etl'ect that an auxilary body or farm managers be organised to do relieving duty on farms. After a brief discussion an amendment that the matter be referred to a committee for investigation was moved by Mr G. 'l‘. Uruwley, To An'amulu, and seconded by Mr M. E. Burrowrlough, Morrinsvillc. ’l‘lic anmndment was carried and the mailer was referred to a small com—mittee for a later report. Effect. of Awards. A remit. which read, “while supporting the principle of arbitration IJO— employer and Cilipioyet‘, this ronfcrence is Strongly ui' opinion that. direct I‘Cprr‘senlalion on the Arbitration Court should be given. an ex—porting industry so as to ensure close srruiiuy of any awards likely to in—rrraso costs \\llirli in the final analysis it must hour," was brought, forward by Mr G.
