The directors of the \Voollen Industry Association, comprising 21; companies, have decided, subject to approval, tentatively to restrict the coming season‘s purchases of Australian wool to 250,000 ‘bales. They will buy the remainder from South Africa. New Zealand and South America. The president of the AustralianJapan Society, .\ir Sakntani. cabled lo the Prime Minister of Australia, Mr J. A. Lyons, and to the Minister in Charge of Trade Treaties, Sir Henry Gullett, saying he deeply regrets that the decision of the Australian tarifi‘ is aggravating trade relations and that he apprehends grave future developments. "l‘he spokesman of the Japanese Foreign Otilce estimates that Japanese exports of cotton goods to Australia will cease entirely except for materials like wheat sacks. Rayon goods are expected to decline 80 per cent. "Australia is a paradise of rich, natural resources," said the spokesman today. "Japan is different. The stopplug of our exports of manufactured goods means the stopping of our na—tional life.“ The representatives of eight rayon and cotton associations, after a Joint meeting, issued a statement denouncimgv the Australian taritt‘ revision and urging the Japanese Government to take decisive action. They pledged mutual co-operation.
