BOROUGH GASWORKS

I\EW PLANT APPROVED. PURCHASE OF CHARGING MACHINE. Following consideration of a recom—mendation from the trading and finance committee, the Hamilton Borough Council, last evening, authorised the gasworks engineer, Mr J. li. Rishworth, to procure and instnl at the municipal gasworks, a mechanical charging machine at an estimated cost of £740. At the previous meeting of the council .\lr Rishworth stated that it was expected that the use of the charger would result in an increase in the make per ton. which was variously estimated by different makers at figures ranging from 1:00 to 2000 c.ft per ton. Taking the lowest figure, under present circumstances, the' council‘s annual coal bill would be reduced by £9O, which would return 12 per cent; on the outlay. Other advantages would be the reduction of wear and tear on plant, a saving in coke. and the possibility of using more Waikato coal.
