For the second time since his return from Australia under an extradition order a month ago. John William Shaw .\icArihur appeared in the Magistrate‘s Court at Wellington. In addition to four charges on which he appeared originally. and in respect of which he was remanded for a month on bail, three others alleging theft of moneys were made against him to—day. A fur—ther remand ot’ a month was sought and granted. and ball was renewed. An application by counsel {or waiving or the bail condition that .\lcArthur report to the police either in Wellington or Auckland twice weekly was not granted by the magistrate (Mr .\losley). but he varigd the condition to the extent that .\chrthur in addition to reporting either at Wellington or Auckland, may ' also report at Christchurch or Dunedin, according to \\‘here he is at the time. The amount of ball is £IOOO in accused's own bond, with two sureties of £SOO each. The additional charges preferred today against .\lcArthur were: (1) On or about, September to, 1932, at Auckland, he committed the theft of £4OO of mODEt's'of the Sterling Investments Company of New Zealand. Limited; ('2) on or about the same date at Auckland he committed the theft at £3so'of moneys or this company: (3) on or about October '2O, 1932. at Auck—land. he committed theft of £325 of moneys of the company. It was stated by counsel that neither side was ready to proceed for a week or two. MP O’Leary said .\lcArthur was moving about among business and legal people from day to day under the conditions on which bail had been granted, and his business. activities were hampered. I: he was in Dunedin or Christchurch for business reasons he would suddenly have to bolt back to \Vellington for the purpose or reporting to the police: also he considered such a condition prejudice-1 him in the eyes of the public and cre—ated an atmosphere against him. The magistrate took the course of extending the reporting places, Auck—land and \\'cllington. to include Christchurch and Dunedin.
