In addition to other measures the High Commissioner had taken steps to restrict the movements of agitators and strike leaders. Authority was given earlier in the year for increases In the British and Palestinian sections of the police. and the High ‘ Commissioner recently outhorised the enrolment or a" number of tax-constables as supernumerary police. As the House was aware the‘ military garrison had been substantially reinforced since the outbreak of the unrest. ‘ Regarding the appointment of a‘ Royal Commission after order had been restored there was no reason to suppose that. this would not be generally aoceptabie. It was not yet possible to make any statement about, the terms or reference or the personnel of the Commission. High Commiulonor’a Regret. h an nddress at Levant Fair. at 'l‘ehn'h'. the. This spirit of restraint. is admirable in itself and most helpful to the Governmcnt."
