OBITUARY.
MR ARTHUR HIOKFORD. The death has occurred at Hamilton of Mr Arthur Hickford in his 67th ”glam in Sudbun‘. sunoik, in 1870. Mr Hickiord came to New Zeaiand with his parents In the Star of India, arriv—ing at Wellington in 1875. He resided in the Rongotea district tor many lyeams where he was well known and held in high regard. Always holding ‘an interest in public afleirs he gave his time devotedly to many causes. He ‘was chairman of committees of several Wanganui schools, including the Girls' vCotlese and ot the Raurimu School. Iwhile he was also a member of the ‘Wanganui Education Board. He was a keen supporter of the Labour Party, having been associated with the Hon. F. Limestone (Minister .0: Lands), in his early political career. and his name was recently mentioned in connection \\'tlh an appointment to the Legislative Council. Spending the latter part of his life in Hamilton. he became well known here and will be missed by a wide circle. The late Mr Hickford is survived by his wife and five daughters and three sons, Mesdames H. James (Palmerston Sorth). R. Rogerson (Wansanui). E. E. Thurston ('l‘aumarunui), R. B. Edwards (Raetihi), Miss Hazel Hickrord, .\lessrs’C. R. Hickiord (Taumarunui), W. N. Hickford. of the Royal Navy, and ii. M, Hickiord (Wellington). MRB KARIKA. The death occurred on Saturday at her residence in Stafford Street. Gam—hridgc, of Mrs Knrika. a \\eil-knmui member of the Maori race. Born about 86 years ago .\irs Karilta. whose ancestral name \\'as Parepumai te \\’hetuiti. has been a resident of cambridgr for nmuy years and was much respected by .\laoris and Europeans. The late Mr .\lurris served the Denartment for 48 years, during whirh time he occupied the post of chief postmaster at Christchurch and later rhiet’ inspector or the Deparlment. lie was appointed secretary to the Department in 1920 and retired on superannuation in 1923.
