FAT SHEEP FIRM. BAGONERS IN DEMAND. ___—q BEEF IN FULLER SUPPLY. A feature of the Frankton {at stock sale yesterday was the animated competition for haeoners which appreciated substantially in values, selling to "133 per head. ‘Both cattle and sheep were on offer in heavy numbers and values in both these departments were gen—erally firm. 0x beef was on offer in the largest supply for some months and the in—clusion of improved quality deseriptions resulted in a. sharpening o! the demand although values remained on the same level as that of last Tuesday. The best quality pens sold to £lO 115 per head and to 25s per 100113.. but the more inferior sorts were harder to quit and the price range for these per ioolb. was from 185 to 105 and from £6 103 to £9 per head. Cow and heifer beef was in smaller supply than last week and with several prime pens of—fering the demand was korner and prices were generally a shade better than last week. Best pens met the market. at. prices ranging from £5 16S to £7 155 under a brisk demand. Sheep and Figs. Wethers and ewes were again ready of «air and values throughout were fully ilrm, prime. It, consists of lw) cured hobby calf skins sent back to New Zealand from America, and which are quite useless to the trade owing to the serious injury caused by barb wire. Evidently the calves were tied up close to a barbed wire fence and the barbs made deep wounds in the skin. With the recent fall in the lamb schedule there was naturally a slackening of interest in lambs although values were only a shade lower than last Tuesday. A small entry of store sheep cleared readily st unchanged rates. The best p‘rice realised in the fat pig section [or several seasons was ob—tained yesterday when an exceptionally ‘prime baconer sold for '7ss, but the best price realised for any number was 735. This represented an advance iof fully 45 on the top price of last week. Although slow or sale, porhers iwere inclined to he just a shade better iihan last week. An improving tendenm gwes also shown for a moderate yard—}ins of store pigs. i Individual Sales. Top price in the on beef section was obtained by two vendors. For two heavy prime steers Mr A. Ramsay ohteined £lO Ins, while this same figure was also obtained by Mr J. Harmon, of Cambridge, who sold a. pair of simi—lar quality. An attractive pen from the Paerangi Es—tate was ready of sale and sold with« out difllculty from £6 to £7 55. Wellflnished heifers from Mr C. Dawson were bought from £5 17s Gd to £6 ~55. Choice \vethers from Messrs lloutte and Nowlette, of Te Uku, met an ani—mnted demand and were traded from 31; lid to 32s 9d; the best price for wethers at Frankton for some weeks. Ewes from Mr R. W. G. Rutherford, of ’i‘aupil‘i, were cleared at 195 3d. while better-nuished descriptions from Mr D. 'Heid, of Nsahinepouri, were traded from 235 to 233 3d. Choice ewes from Mr J. 11. Gore realised. 23s Gd. In the fat pig section the top price for the season was obtained by Mr J. McNicol. of “ Hayslope," flillcl‘est, who sold an outstanding beconer for 755. Price Summary. the sale as followu— Sheep: The fat pens were filled with an excellent entry of both ewe and wether mutton. Competition for both classes was keen and prioes were firmer than last week. Prime heavy ewes were especially good and made up to 235 6d. Fat lambs were penned in good numbers and with the schedule price back, values were not as firm as last sale. One pen of heavy prime lambs uttered on account of Messrs. R. and G. Ranstead, Matangl. realised 205. Vealers and runners again cams ”orward in full numbers. with all ~lasses in ilrm demand. An average vurding of ox beef, with good quality light weight cattle showing an improved demand. Pigs—The yardins or fat piss was not as large as the previous weekend. and prices for baconers advanced considerably while porkers remained firm at late rates. The top price in the bacon section was 3 155. which Is the highest obtained in the Walknio this season. We quote: Heavy baconers, £3 103 to £3 155; medium weights. £3 to £3 85; light. £2 “3 to £2 19:); heavy porkers, £2 25 to £2 85: medium weights, 355 to £2; light. 285 to 335: small. 255 to 275. Store pigs met with a ready sale and prices showed an improvemenL on those of the previous sale.
