BADMINTON

i HAMILTON CLUB. PARTIOULARLV STRONG TEAM. SUCCESS IN CHAMPIONSHIPS. (By “ Side Out.") ’l‘he Hamilton Club can justly claim ‘ the distinction of having definitely lbrought Waikato to the iore in pro—vincial badminton, for at the 1934 Do—minion championships held at Wanganut, its members won nine of the pos‘sible 16 events from strong and widespread competition—a great perform—ance. The dominating personality was H. H. Fow (singles and men‘s doubles) and the other title winners were R. Fear (A men's doubles and B. singles), Miss M. Edmondsou (B grade singles land B ladies‘ doubles), Mrs H. 11. Fow (B ladies‘ doubles) and A. Dempsier. l At the Dominion championships last lyear the members performed ereditabiy but the A grade titles were denied them. However, H. H. Fow had some consolation in winning the North 15land, singles, doubles and combined eyents. An interesting feature of the last New Zealand tournament was that Hamilton broke its sequence of \\'in—ners in the B grade ladies' singles com—mench by Mrs Fow in 1932 and held by Mrs Yendeli in 1933 and Miss M. Edmondson in 193-3. Dominated the Play. l Hamilton dominated the play in the‘ \Vaikato competitions winning.r the I\.‘ 8., and G grades, the ilrst two with—out, ‘the loss of a match. The compil—ing of such an enviable reeord has this season rewarded the club with a full membership oi over 50 players and a waiting list. New that a month of the badminton season has elapsed, players are beginning to show their true form just as the competitions are about to commence with the result that Selectors will experience murh tiiilirulty in sorting out‘thc teams. There are many players of a. uniform standard. New—corners to the club in Skeet, Comer, Innes and Belgrave are worthy of con—sideration but must. expect to meetl with stiff opposition from Callis,l Ciough, Sutclii‘fe, 'i‘anner and Diiiiear. l in the ladies, the likely favourites for the iinal selection will he Mrs Yen« (it‘ll, Misses, 1.
