In the Legislative Assembly nine Government supporters crossed the floor of the House lo vote against sending the Minister of Education (Mill. D. Drummond) to England for tlie educationists’ conference. The vote was on the motion by the ex-Minisler of Health, Mr Weaver (United Australia Party), “That Hie contemplated trip was ' an unwarranted expenditure of public money.’ ” Mr Weaver said the main subject of the conference was " education and a free society—a discussion on the foundation of freedom in a free country.” He, asked whether it was necessary for a member of tlie Government to travel 13,000 miles to discuss that. Mr Weaver's motion was defeated by 41 votes to 38 %
