TAX ON LIPSTICK.
POLITICIANS’ SUGGESTION. CHANCELLOR TO INVESTIGATE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON. May 20. The Marquess of Titchfleld (Conservative member for Newark), in the House of Commons suggested the imposition of a tax on lipstick. He said he understood ilarge sums are obtained from such a tax in France and America, and he did not ibelieve that ladies in Britain were any less decorative than the ladies in France, and large sums could he raised. The suggestion was received with cheers and laughter. Mr N. Chamberlain (Chancellor of the Exchequer), did not see how such a tax was consistent with the desire to make everyone happy, but he would seriously examine the preparation referred to.
