’ caok Strait Gables.——The ‘lmperial ‘Communlcntion Company‘s cable ship Recorder, formerly the Iris, will ar—rive in VVelllngton early next week to commence cable repair on two of tho ‘telegraphic cables crossing Cook Strait. The first to receive attention is the No. 5 cable running from Lyali Bay, Weiiington, to White's Bay, near Blenheim. One break is three miles from the Lyell Bay end and another 12 miles further out. The Recorder will afterwards repair the No. 1 telegraph cable running from Oterangi Buy to White's Bay, a fault having developed oflshore from \Vhite‘s Bay.

Parker, Lamb Tlmbor Company.— The report of the Parker, Lamb Tim—ber Company, Limited, for the year ended March 31 states that attention has been given to the realisation of the assets of the Auckland mill, with :1 View of concentrating upon the One—hunga mill. During the period the majority of the machinery has been sold and a block of bush and a section of Onehunsa land disposed of. The accounts for the year show a net loss of $1123, against £11,221 shown in the previous year, which increases the debit balance in the appropriation ac—count to £39,803.

Charges Agalnst Motorlst.—George Tallentine, a timber worker, aged 33‘. was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on a charge of negligent driving and convicted and ordered to pay costs totalling £5 in the Auckland Police Court yesterday on charges of failing to stop after an accident, failing to render assistanre, and falling to notify the police. When last seen at dusk she was steering to the south—east in the direction of Cape Palliser.

Services to Museum—A resolution placing on record its deep regret at. the. death of Mr H. E. \‘ailo and its grateful recognition of his long ser—vice as president and member was passed at a meeting or the Council of the Auckland Institute and Museum yesterday. Appreciation was also expressed of Mr V‘aiie's efforts in con—‘inection with the establishment of a War Memorial Museum, and for many valuable gifts, including the Vailc collection.

i Faulty Headllghts.—.\lany motorists ihave recently complained of the daniger of night driving because of the faulty headlights on many of the latest model cars. It was stated by an Auckland Automobile Association patrol today that the majority of the headlights of the new cars badly needed adjusting and he would advise motorists with new cars to have their lights adjusted im—mediately. Omcens of the A.A.A. in Hamilton are at present engaged in adjusting headlights and motorists who wished 'to have their lights adjusted are advised that patrols will be pre—sent to—nlght and to-moi‘row night Ibe—hind the premises of Messrs G. E. Clark and Sons.

Angling Condltlons.—Lake Tarawera has continued to provide good sport for trout anglers during the past fort< night. reports Mr A. Kean, conservator of fish and game. The fish taken from the lake were particularly heavy and in remarkably good condition. Fishing in the V‘VhakatanevOpotiki district was poor. owing to the fact that for the first 10 days or the period the rivers were high and discoloured. The fish taken from the streams in this dislrirt, hmvever, were reported to be in very good condition. Results on the Waikaio River were encouraging, fish up 'xto Sgib in weight being taken below the lluka Falls. A number of limit catches were taken. In the Taupo district the Tongariro River fished ex—oeptionally well.
