ENGLISH WOMEN.
“SMARTER THAN FRENCH." The average Englishwoman looks far more attractive than the Parisian woman in the opinion of Miss Joan Hannan, of Darling Point, says a Sydney paper. Miss Hannan has been a'broad with her mother, Mrs 11. Lips-c-omble Hannan, for the past seven months, during which she spent four months studying film make-up at the Gaumont British studios. Although there are a few women in England taking an active interest in the new art of film make-up, Miss Hannan was the only girl engaged in this work at the Gaumont British studios. She studied with 12 men. and also learnt the American and German methods of make-up. Miss Hannan, who “made-up” Jessie Matthews and Sonnie Hale for “It is Love Again ” and Constance Bennett and Douglas Montgomery for “ All Asunder,” said that far more shading is necessary for actresses than for actors. “ The faces are moulded with a long artist's 'brush, and any irregularities of features corrected,” said Miss Hannan.
