STONE STRUCTURES.

TWO THOUBAND YEARB OLD. LIKE A LITTLE STONEHENGE. United Prese Assn.—Elec. TeL Copyright. (Received May 20, 11.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, May 20. Stone structures of mysterious origin and estimated to be 2000 years old, which have been discovered in the Trobrland Islands, west of Papua, form the subject of an Interesting report made by Mr F. E. Williams, Government anthropologist. He states that some of the structures on the island of Kirtwine appeared to him like “ a little Stonehenge.” Their original purpose seemed to have been lost or forgotten, but It was likely that they were “tomb temples” or sacred places of burial. At the site of one of the structures human bones were found buried.
