RUGBY FOOTBALL.
TE AROHA UNION. In the match on Saturday between the Thames Old Boys and the Te Aroha Maoris a feature of the game was the fast and correct passing by the Thames backs and very few errors being made throughout the arternoon. Williams, Hewson, Goodwin, Hamilton and Lambert playing right up to senior form. Mortimer, of the Maori team, ranked as tn outstanding three-quarter. His running, swerving and general initiatlvenoss was right up to his best form, while his collaring was without fault. The respective full-backs—Jackson (Maoris) and P. Ray (Old Boys) played excellent Rugby. Ray was especially .-..ue and very difficult to collar, while Jackson, by his clever tackling and kicking got bis team out of trouble on many occasions. Tukl, a smart three-quarter two reasons ago, played a brilliant game. Always in the picture, good at breaking away and stopping his opponent, he gained applause Tor the manner in which he showed rare determination In gaining his score. Walhou Seniors were unable to field a senior team on Saturday, and defaulted to City. The Maori team is making quite a good showing, and their form Is creating an Interest In the season’s play.
