COMING LEGISLATION. MORTGAGES AND TRANSPORT. OUTLINED AT CAUCUS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A caucus of Government members was held this morning when three important points of the Government's policy were discussed The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. M. J. Savage, said consideration had been given to the Bill which will provide for the assumption of control of the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand by the State. The Hon. W. Nash, Minister of Finance, who was in charge of the measure, had given an outline of his proposals.. This 'had been approved. The Bill was not yet finally drafted and it would proibably be Thursday before it would be ready for presentation to the House.
Mr Savage said there would be a further Bill dealing with the adjustment of mortgages in the light of guaranteed prices. 44 The revaluation of land problem is not an easy one,” said Mr Savage, ‘‘but it will have to be tackled. It may be necessary to guarantee the prices of other exportable primary products, but there is no need to deal with them while they are doing all right.”
Mr Savage added that caucus had approved of the Transport Licensing Amendment Bill and also certain amendments and the second reading debate would start to-night. The Bill, which it was proposed would readjust rentals and prevent the exploitation of tenants had been before caucus and a committee of legal members had been set UP to bring down proposals to a further caucus to-mor-row.
