GOLD MISSION.
Gold Mission won attractively on the first day of the Egmont meeting and was narrowly beaten by One Whetu on the second day of the gathering. Bhe heads the handicap for the open sprint here on Saturday and her 8.8 should not stop her. Earlier at Fielding she recorded a third on either day end Is definitely on the improve. Not Coming. It has been decided that Royal Banquet Is not to go to Ellerslie, his trainer deeming that he has not had sufficient schooling for such a mission. Racing at Hastings, Wanganui, and Wellington are now the programme decided upon. Le Ohasseur. Le Chasseur has been working along satisfactorily in his preparation at headquarters and is set down for a reappearance in the Maiden Handicap at Te Rapa on Saturday. The Hunting Song gelding is fully qualified to handle heavy conditions and if suoh prevail on the day his chances in the Maiden Handicap will be enhanced. Blnklng Fund. There are few horses at Te Rapa that thrive more on racing than the Acre gelding Slnkfng Fund and his third in the mile and a quarter at Te Awamutu on Saturday suggests that he will have to be seriously reckoned with in the President’s Handicap here on Saturday. He has a stiff poundage but should nevertheless make a bold showing. Kept In Training. Most of the Hawke’s Bay two-year-olds have now gone into winter quarters, hut. one exception is Chat, who is being kept in training in view o[ a spring trip to Sydney with Wagner. The latter is running out for a short spell on. his owner's stud farm at Poukawa. Little Saint. Little Saint demonstrated in his first public outing at the Matamata meeting that he possesses ability to handle easing conditions and with tracks to suit him from now on he will, bear watching. On Saturday he is an acceptor for the Maiden Handicap and appeals as a likely improver who should not be long in breaking hJs maiden status.
Should Improve. The ex-Te Rapa trained Ruaville was having his first outing for a spell when he ran fourth in maiden company ft Te Awamutu on Saturday. Following the promising nature of his track work he was well supported in the betting. That outing should serve to effect Improvement in his condition and he may be seen to better advantage when next produced.
